@darkskyutah: Roadway Silhouette Dance - One of the best skills you can develop as a night photographer is making the best of less-than-ideal conditions and locations. I can't always take pictures in the best locations, so I have learned to improvise and make the most of each place. Believe it or not, all those shadows jumping around are me and my tripod. I took these images on a little dirt road that led away from a hotel outside Panguitch, Utah. The starry sky was beautifully clear when we arrived. I didn't want to waste the opportunity. So after getting my family settled into the hotel, I snuck out and walked down this dirt road I found on Google Maps. The sky was very dark near the hotel. However, many bright parking lot lights caused some issues. Multiple lights behind me cast several shadows. I tried for a while to minimize the shadows with low-level lighting or moving around to different areas, but I couldn't. So I decided that a time-lapse would add a little movement to my forced self-portrait. Want to learn more about night photography? some constructive criticism. the light source coming from behind you is casting a shadow in your frame. depending on what your light source is you can reposition to help reduce or eliminate the shadow.
