In order to save money a person needs to downsize their lifestyle. In every way, start eliminating small things like dining out or fast food and start cooking. Do away with the fancy coffees make your own, pic up a side hustle or a few. Put all money you were spending into a savings plan, save change…turn off your lights and don’t stay in the shower for 1/2 hour lol there’s a lot of ways to cut back and save 💯 you’re not going without you’re going out less and having more later

Spending CAN BE a habit, so telling yourself to spend less can work if you’re willing to break a habit that is harming you. I try to have “no spend” days. Does it always work? No, but does it work enough to keep me mindful, yes.

My husband and I started this early in our relationship. 10% for savings, investments etc. The point was to get use to living on less early. Our son is in University and is putting 25$ a week in TSFA. We are paying for his schooling (because we saved and invested), but he works and is learning the value of building for something. Our daughter is much younger and we just started a MYDOH account with her. Her allowance and task earned money is divided into spend and saving (15%). She really needs this lesson because money burns a hole in her pocket.

Spending less by cutting expenses can work, negotiating expenses and salary can work too, cutting some expenses 100% works too, increasing income can work too, everything can work and some are better than others depending on the persons personality and goals. The main thing is having margin / disposable income each month to consistently invest each month for decades, and that can be done on any income if you are wise with expenses.

Purse strings are real, if you have credit debt or a loan or vehicle to pay off. Don't just pay the minimum monthly amount, if you have it, dump it. The faster you pay this off. The lighter you feel.
