@englishwithrhys: The Order of Adjectives In English, adjectives follow a hidden rule that native speakers use without even realising it. When we use multiple adjectives to describe a noun, they usually follow a specific order: Opinion, Size, Physical quality, Age, Shape, Colour, Origin, Material, and Purpose (OSPASCOMP). If you look this up in different grammar guides, you might notice some variations. Some textbooks put "Number" at the very beginning (NOSPASCOMP), while others skip the "Physical" category completely (OSASCOMP). English rules can be slightly flexible depending on where you look! Speaking of the "Physical" category, did you catch my slip-up at the end of the video? I gave you a massive example to show off the rule: "A beautiful, little, old, rectangular, purple, Scottish, wooden garden fence." I managed to hit almost every category, but I completely forgot to include a physical adjective! If I had, it might have been a beautiful, little, heavy, old, rectangular fence. Even teachers can get confused when the sentence gets that long! Remember, you rarely want to use more than two or three adjectives in real life, otherwise you'll sound completely unnatural. Too complicated for non-native speakers. The order comes from their instincts. Even if we remember the order of OSPASCOMP, we can't recall the order while speaking English. This is because I'm forgetful😂
