Although I agree with some of the criticisms he brings up, it’s hard to take him seriously when he interprets you extremely uncharitably throughout and calls you a charlatan…

I’m a fan of yours, and definitely respect you as a linguist. That said, I think the political comments you make on occasion take away from your content overall.

you should definitely look at publishing the results and making available the methodology of the studies, it totally makes sense to not include them in the actual book for readability but some kind of blog lost is the sort of standard even for "pop" books

He seemed a bit curmudgeonly. It was fair enough in a research vs pop-science way, until he complained about the use of “ragebait” by comparing it to “sharkbait.” Your use of ragebait is definitely the correct one, so it seems like he just doesn’t consider online shift in language to be valid.

isn't that also the guy argued Hebew is not a constructed and revived language because is was used for religious purposes. Even no one spoke it conversationally for centuries.

Having also read your book, I think the points of his you bring up here are accurate to how you describe them. However, he brings up many more points, especially to do with the rigor of your study, which I can’t help but agree with. If your core argument is language is changing because of the Internet and you mainly discuss Internet phenomena, I don’t think you’ve proven your thesis. Similarly, you argue that the Internet is not only changing language, but changing it in new, previously unseen ways, which I don’t think you do much to prove.

this "response" is ironically itself a bad faith reply to his video. You intentionally ignored his substantive critiques 😂
