No, the corporations are so greedy rent isn’t stable. Smaller homes should be a thing again. The huge houses are unsustainable

Either are fine depending on your priorities and habits. Owning a smaller home is pretty awesome- it now is cheaper than rent for me in my area (I did some work to negotiate my mortgage). I have a garage with shop and storage space and a garden to grow my own food. Repairs and maintenance do take planning and money, but over all not a big deal if you stay in a schedule. I’d say if you’d prefer not to get your hands dirty and you’re rather not have to keep track of several systems don’t but a house. If you don’t mind those things and like flexibility and have good ability to save, a house might be a good option for you.

I agree with you to a point. However, I'm I'm my 40s with 2 kids and we've lived in 5 different homes now. At this point I want the stability of staying in one place for more than. a year or 2. We're at the whims of landlords and however much they want to charge (and can get away with). I've rented my entire adult life and I am tired of the instability. I want to put down roots.

👏 Preach. We can get a beautiful and bigger house by renting. And then take all the extra and invest. Buying would get me a shitty old fixer upper for much more than I'd pay in rent or something much smaller for the same price. I'd rather rent and invest.

I own a home with my brother that we inherited from my grandparents. in Cali. when Grandma was alive, property taxes were less than 800 bucks a year. when my brother switched it to his name and then the value of the property and all that baloney, taxes are now 3,500 a year. we've also had to put in over 20k into changing the whole wiring of the house because it had the OG wiring from the 70s and wasn't grounded. and we still need to look into plumbing, exterior, and structural changes just to make this house livable to be able to sell. inheriting it was the easy part. but tbh I would have backed out if I had to pay anything for this house on top of maintaining it. I do not recommend being a homeowner, there are better ways to invest. just rent lmao

Unfortunately, most of the rent prices I see around me are less than my mortgage. I have a friend who’s shopping for a house to rent and I am absolutely shocked at the rent prices.

by some miracle I was able to buy a house for two and a half times my income. the problem is everything else cost six times my remaining income. still cheaper than renting though.
