What do you all want to know about Mammoth Cave. I’ve seen a lot of places not available to the public.

also, equally amazing is that on the surface there, is millions of people who think that the earth is only 6000 years old.

I worked at mammoth cave years ago. I was IT but loaned out to the science department and other areas. it was the best position I ever had. everyone was kind, it was fun and I lived in the park with the interns. GIS mapping, radio communications, cyber security, and field IT. I could start my day doing tape back ups and end it counting bats with night vision goggles. The caves and history are beautiful too.

I have a large shark tooth from Mammoth Cave that my father found when he was a kid in Kentucky. This was around 1932 before it was declared a national park

I went there a couple months ago and it was insane! You can go on a tour through parts of the cave by lantern light. Also most of that cave system was explored and mapped by the enslaved people working there specifically one guy who mapped like 70% of the known cave back in the day by lantern light

The fact that ecosystems can survive like this for millions and millions of years is why there's no way there isn't life on other planets. life will find a way

I lived in cave city Kentucky for years, bowling green for years... there are rats the size of your head right outside of the cave "park city" etc... it's a great place to live in some ways

The limestone is also why Kentucky has bluegrass, great horses, and bourbon. Limestone = calcium seeping into the grass = “bluegrass” = horses having stronger bones and more athletic frames. This calcium also filters the ground water and gives bourbon that smoother finish than other whiskeys.

I went spelunking with my Girl Scout troop in Mammoth Cave like 30 years ago. We slept in the cave under a ceiling of bats & took a boat ride in the pitch black on one of the underground lakes. They had spotlights so we could see the animals and I still think about to to this day. It was easily one of the coolest experiences of my entire life.

Kentucky here . Seeing sea creatures in the walls of a cave in Ky is wild and My mother tells stories of going to a restaurant back in the 1950’s that used to be down in the cave

Very cool, thanks for sharing… do you think this is where the MAGA first evolved from, meaning no exposure to enlightenment, knowledge or forward thinking? All kidding aside this is fascinating to learn about.

Kentucky is essentially Swiss cheese underground. One of my professors said that they estimate of only mapping about 1/4-1/3 of it. When I went to Horse Cave in KY they said they think the two caves are connected but aren’t sure simply bc of proximity

The fact that this exists a short 2 hours away from the Noah's Arc Museum is just bananas in addition to being depressing. 😳

A good amount of the cave was mapped by a formerly enslaved Black Man also 🤞🏾 I think he drew the first map of the cave that was used by explorers for a long time!
