@sailing_with_phoenix: I never believed in having a soul animal. That was until I found Phoenix. Without question, she is mine. I have to keep this short for my own sake. I know there are a lot of people who don’t understand this decision. So understand this. I will be going through some of the most dangerous and isolated places on earth. There is no room for decisions making outside of the safety of my ship and myself. Deciding to have her sit this one out has been the hardest decision I have ever made. I made it for her safety and for mine as well. It has been the heaviest weight I have carried getting to this point. I have had my heart broken before. This feels the same. But I also know from experience that a requirement to chasing big dreams is making seemingly impossible decisions. This is one of them. I am incredibly thankful to my brother and his girlfriend, who picked up their lives and moved here all the way from the UK to love and care for Phoenix while I’m gone. Their sacrifice is the only reason I can justify leaving her. Without them, I simply wouldn’t be sailing around the world. She will be with family. She will be loved, played with, spoiled, and cared for. Most importantly. She will be safe. I know some of you are worried about me too. Don’t be. Heartbreak is hard, but I will get through it. She is going to be the biggest reason I keep going. I am already thinking about the day I walk back through that front door and see her again. I’ll see you soon, my sweet little girl.
