This is wild. I won't get into the details but I was assigned to hire Indigenous journalists for a Canadian media outlet in 2024 and there are already inherent issues with verifying the identity of Indigenous journalists due to the challenges with people posing as Indigenous when they don't have any roots in those communities. This certainly complicates matters more.
