I do think that explaining what you’re doing on your phone when someone else is asking for your attention really helps *you* acknowledge it too. Almost like it makes it more of a real thing, and makes you think a little more about whether it actually makes sense that you’re prioritizing making a search, reading an email, sending a text, etc over giving your loved one the attention they’re asking for, or if it could wait. Sometimes the phone task does need to take priority, and that’s fine! But there are definitely a lot of things we do on our phones that can wait.

I like this. Because yeah. You need to learn to wait but when they waiting for you to finish on your phone and you don’t even respond to them? Kids aren’t stupid and know that a lot of adults zone out so they need to compete with the phone. You have all the intention of being with them in a second but once 5 minutes pass, you forgot all about them if they politely walk away. So I kind of see why if they see you on your phone scrolling, it’s fair game to not respect that activity. They need to be loud and annoying because being good does nothing for them!

Shouldn't they assume it's something important? My kids do. They don't want me interrupting them when they're doing something I know isn't important, like video games.

it sounds like it's it's. you're teaching people creative ways to make no to say not a safe, invalid option. cuz if he says no after you say a feeling he's going to be dismissive and avoidant defensive all these fun little things that you teach people right instead of being vulnerable. you put this pressure on people so that no is on a safer validity option

But it’s not important. It’s twitter. Or sports news. That’s my issue
