Many theologians explain the emergence of imperfection in an originally perfect world in this way. Divine trust—the fact that the Creator has entrusted this power to beings demonstrates how highly He values the dignity of His creatures. Free will is thus the most sacred tool a human possesses to actively help shape creation. In many spiritual traditions, the goal of life is precisely what you describe: voluntarily shaping one’s own free will so that it becomes one with the love and holiness of the Creator.
