As someone with an English degree. I agree, it doesn’t make much money. However, it’s still a necessary degree (needed for secondary education English and up). Cutting the ability to gain financial relief for this degree will only make the English language/literature crisis worse.

I mean it kind of makes sense. why loan out money to someone who very likely isn't going to make much and will likely end up applying for some sort of loan relief bc they cant pay. And this is coming from someone who majored in anthropology and now cant make payments on my loans 😭 the government loses money on that, and honestly so do I because I wasn't pressured into majoring in something more lucrative. I do think higher education should be less expensive. But yea, if I was loaning out money to people I'd want to know that they have a high chance of paying it back.

It’s funny because there’s a work around to this…. On paper, you say you’re measuring in a certain degree but you actually register and take classes for a different one. There’s no way for them to cross track and compare that across who billions of students to verify every single one.
