Defended PhD August 2025, applied to jobs since March of 2025. 700 applications 6 interviews 3 jobs since then. Do contract work or post doc until you can land something. Keep applying and try to get referrals is my best advice. Good luck you got this!

Not a PhD but I spent 4 years on a physics honours degree, specialized in materials science, certificate in astronomy and a minor in mathematics. I ultimately haven’t been able to make sense of my education in this job market and it’s been 6 months since I graduated. This has been a huge influence on me not getting a graduate degree because I’m not sure it’ll do me any better

i’m sorry :( it’s a really tough market right now, but i believe in you! i applied to 600-700 jobs post grad this may and got one interview that turned into an offer. you got this! it’s a numbers game and all you need is one yes, so don’t give up!!

I’m so glad I paired my bachelors degree with a teaching degree before I went into academia. My career prospects in my field are trash but at least I have a fallback I am not passionate about but will pay the bills.
