I think it's okay to just be okay with stories like as I gave up God I gave into logic and I know these things are sociological creations but I don't see why that's less valuable than just what occurs in nature

Im in the middle ground where, im not as accepting as you are and im also not quite as anti religion/myths as id like to think i am. I will indulge certain things like astrology, holidays, and rituals but once something has proven to cause harm i wont touch it even if it has "progressive" versions. unless its against my will and since im a closeted ex muslim lots of it is against my will. aside from the closted aspect im happy where i am

I find it very helpful to sort truth into objective (real independent of what we believe), subjective (real because of what we believe), and intersubjective (real because of what we believe together, which all cultural institutions including religion fall into)

I hear you and I agree with you. I think those people are afraid they’re going to be sucked back into the untruth, into the theater. They’ve lost their ability to trust themselves because it’s such a young age. People told them this story, this movie was true and they believed it. Churches heart will ruined their sense of self and now instead of taking a chance it could be sucked back in, they are just opting out. It’s just another fish flying in the name of mainstream religion?

Well that’s what i exactly went through, that’s like fully atheist and then slowly i started using spirituality for my brain. Rituals keeps you going and gives hope. Absolute nihilism and absurdism after religious trauma can take your will to continue living quicker than you think.

Love this. I absolutely think, if our worldview impedes us from encountering other people and knowing them and what they value, the stories they see themselves a part of, then it's a problem for sure.

I see what you're saying and agree to an extent. For me, I have a strong anti-religion response because of the harm it causes. I have trouble accepting a story/ritual that does more harm than good (for humanity in general, not each individual). I'd happily opt out of the illusion of money as well if I could! 😆

from my understanding YHWH.. is not a God... YHWH is the term used to say no God exists.... but there is definitely something to serve that is responsible for all. it is in no way physical or visible.. it is there.... the only way to describe it.. is to breath it in YH...and breath it out WH. YHWH...four letters to describe breathing in and out is what you should focus all your spirituality towards.

The problem is, how do we help people overcome that past trauma so that they can get the benefits of narratives, awe, imagination, ritual because they understand that these are evolutionary artifacts that are beneficial in the right contexts? I usually find it hard sometimes, because most of the atheists I'll meet want to bond over the pain that religion caused them rather than seeking to build past it with its beneficial tools. They usually call me an apologist because I try to explain the likely evolutionary reasons of religious behavior
