If it was a surprise party….then her friends should have been invited and known….so I agree that she probably didn’t have any real plans for her besides giving a cake and a gift for once….which could happen whenever too. Mom and dad are AH. I get that moms have a closer bond w their sons, and dads closer w daughters, but what she’s doing is terrible and dad isn’t stepping up at all.

My kids are 7 days apart. We never celebrate their birthdays together. We may do a combined thing like a family trip for their birthday but they each get cake and presents on their actual birthday. Their favorite cake. I even change the birthday banners so they feel special.

My mum did this growing up, and even as an adult would get me a cake i didnt like, & wonders why I stopped celebrating with her. She too prefers my brother over me & honestly the pain doesn't really go away.
