@quieterroads: I've come close twice. First during medical school, when my elective was derailed by COVID. Then as a postgraduate, when the application rules changed to US residents only in the very year I applied. Touring NASA yesterday, I felt exactly what I felt as a child, watching and obsessing over the incredible work being done here. It reignited my creative curiosity and my love of the unknown. I was 10 when Space Shuttle Columbia was lost in 2003. I remember it clearly, and that heart-sinking feeling has never really left. Rest in peace to the seven brave souls on board. One day I hope to return as more than a tourist, to contribute to this incredible community and its work.
