She did ruin him by feeding what was already there. She knew he was vulnerable and that’s exactly why she exploited it. But either way, deep down, all he wanted was to belong somewhere and be understood, smth his neglectful parents never gave him. Throughout the movie, he said it himself, he doesn’t understand why ppl r seewcidal and so he just wants to get better (the scene w the therapist, behind the door). In other words, if Sylvia wasn’t there to nurture his ideologies, he would never have this tragic ending.
