@living.rochester.suburbs: 📸 The camera in your pocket was invented in Rochester. In 1975. And Kodak told the guy who built it to keep quiet. 👇 It started as a throwaway assignment. Steven Sasson, a young Kodak engineer, was offered two minor projects. The conversation took under 30 seconds. A year later he'd built the world's first digital camera. 8 pounds. Size of a toaster. Ran on 16 AA batteries. 100 x 100 pixels, about 0.01 megapixels. It took 23 seconds to save one photo to cassette tape. The first digital photo in history was of a Kodak lab tech named Joy Marshall. Nobody thought to keep it. 😅 Kodak patented it in 1978. Then executives decided there was no market, and Sasson wasn't allowed to show it publicly. Kodak filed for bankruptcy in 2012. Sasson got the National Medal of Technology from President Obama. His camera sits in the Smithsonian.
