Tell me about it! Been there 11 years and as soon as I raised alarms about one owner 3 years ago, I’ve been in “performance” meetings each year. Higher workload, all work is done, no complaints but there’s this fabricated “I feel that…” give me a break.

High performer here this is my entire adult working life as a therapist… I think people would be really shocked at how toxic mental health work environments are for the people that work in it especially the ones that know what they’re doing!!

Happens to me all the time. For the past several weeks our store manager and another worker that opened Saturdays would forget to clean the slicer so when id come in on Sundays id have to clean it just to slice meats and than clean it again. I may it clear to him of the issue and that it needs to be cleaned. This past sunday once again it was left extremely dirty, so I refused to slice meats. The following day he messaged me asking about it, I said I didnt do it because it was left dirty, he said okay. Than on friday he says oh hey this is just a verbal warning but because you failed to do your job your getting a verbal warning. wrote an entire paragraph. I refused to sign it and left my own comments. The other person was written up but just put failed to clean slicer. 4 words and consequence was to have extra duties which won't happen. But also who holds him responsible, literally no one. I dont feel like I should have been written up even if it was just verbal, because it shouldn't take me having to for the first time not do my job or go above and beyond for him to finally listen. And thats only because he had to come in and literally slice every single meat. sorry, not sorry. ill take the warning.

I’ve had this boss, he fired me before I returned to work from maternity leave. Used this very tactic, very weak character in my opinion.

Tolerating low performance is a message, and high performers read it fastest. When they carry the extra load and get no response from leadership, they conclude the standard is negotiable and start looking elsewhere. Addressing it early is a retention strategy, not only a performance one.

I don’t understand them. If someone is messing up, you can tell them they messed up and still be a nice person. I’d rather know I’m messing up and fix it than have someone talk about me behind my back. They are cowards and shouldn’t be in leadership positions.
