Why not speak Swedish with #RebeccaFerguson? Sometimes we do interviews with talented people who happen to be Swedish. At times we do feel a bit silly while speaking English during the interviews, but there are some good reasons for doing so. What people might not know about these sort of press junkets for international tv shows and movies is that these big press junkets are almost always run by people speaking English, at least if the production itself was done in English. When we speak with Rebecca in this case, a bunch of technicians, publicists and junket personnel are present as well - and if the two of us switch over to Swedish without having planned to do so beforehand, that just makes everything a lot harder for everyone else present at that time. And they would also have to get someone to listen to the interview afterwards to make sure we didn’t spoil things they wanted to keep safe prior a premiere for example. As a journalist you have an opportunity to ask for time to do an interview in Swedish of course, but if they aren’t doing a press tour in the Nordics and only let us join remotely to an international one - there might not be any slots available for that. So you’ve already agreed to the terms of the interview when you join the junket. In this particular case we had asked to just say hi in Swedish during the first 10 seconds and switch over to English again for the rest of the chat. And lastly, most Swedes speak English anyways and we’ll write a translated version too for the ones that don’t… so, it’s just easier to spread the chats if they’re in English to begin with 🤪 Now you know! #silo
