Cicada 3301 is a mysterious anonymous group that appeared online in 2012 by posting an extremely difficult puzzle designed to find people with strong skills in cryptography, programming, mathematics, and problem-solving. The puzzles involved hidden messages, encrypted files, books, music, websites, phone numbers, and even real-world QR-code posters placed in different countries. New puzzles appeared in 2013 and 2014, eventually leading to Liber Primus, a mysterious book written in a special runic system that remains only partially solved. The group's identity and exact purpose have never been confirmed, and after a final authenticated message in 2017 warning solvers to “Beware false paths,” no further verified puzzles have appeared publicly.
