Her name is Botshelo Mabua. My best friend. Someone's daughter. Someone's little sister. Someone's friend. Someone's family. And most importantly, a WOMAN whose life was supposed to be long. Botshelo had dreams & goals But a man decided that he had the right to take that away from her. Mmatis we had plans. We were supposed to grow old together, graduate together next year, look back one day and laugh about everything we went through, celebrate each other, watch each other become the women we always spoke about becoming. Who am I going to call when something happens and I immediately think "I need to tell Mmatis"? You were my home. And now I'm standing here trying to understand where home is when you are no longer here. I really want to call you right now and tell you how angry I am and how much this hurts. Every single day, a part of me still wishes someone will call and tell me that this was all a prank. You're gone and I don't know how I'm supposed to accept that. I don't know how I'm supposed to say "rest in peace" to someone who was supposed to be here with us.I don't know how I'm supposed to talk about you in the past tense when my heart still expects you to be here. There are so many things I will never get to say to you & So many plans that will now remain plans. And to the bastard who robbed you of the life you were meant to live: You did not just take a life, You shattered families, You broke friendships. You took someone who was loved, who mattered, who had dreams and I hope you face the consequences of your actions. Women deserve to live, grow old, make mistakes, chase their dreams, succeed and simply exist without fearing that a man will decide that their life should end. Botshelo deserved all of that. Mmatis I will carry you with me, remember your presence, remember the little things, remember the person you were to me. I don't know how I will heal from this but I promise that I will never allow the world to forget that you existed. You were here, loved, YOU WERE BOTSHELO and you deserved so much more.
