@codependencykate: Replying to @jiggykano #greenscreen It’s not dismissive avoidant attachment, it’s “avoidance abuse.” I coined this term and model after hearing thousands of women’s stories and no clinical model to address their relational struggles. Adapted from Dr. Omar Minwalla’s “10 steps to a secret sexual basement,” chronic avoidance finally gets named as abuse, because it is based in covert power and control. If you identify with this, go to my website to get a FREE 25 page guide to help you. #avoidanceabuse
Why do they need a secret life? That’s the part I don’t understand

my husband does all this. he cheated and he does all this. he projects criticism where it makes no sense and he tries to control my schedule and never repairs.

One of the things my ex husband used to do was he refused to look when I asked him to look. it sounds so silly now, but back then our kids were babies and I'd be thrilled by some cute thing one of them was doing and say, oh look he's xyz, look how cute! and ex would literally not even glance over. because we didn't have this incredible framework I didn't have words for the behaviors. because it was seemed so small, I couldn't say yeah he's abusing me. All I could say was death by a thousand cuts. Ultimately for me I had to realize, you don't have to stay with someone you don't want to be with! Even if you can't name abuse. Only after I left I realized what I had just survived. So grateful to you for putting these tools out into the world. So many people need this.

this makes me sick! one because it reminds me of the poor girl who's father literally locked her in their basement for years!!!!! And impregnated her several times. And, because it happened to me for years! 🥺😭 Thank you for bringing light to the subject!

you are the 1st account that I see develop this so clearly (and believe me I follow quite an amount !!) my question is : what kind of therapy should we look for if we experienced this ? My point is that too many therapists in my opinion tend to downplay / invalidate this experience with this kind of discourse like "let's not put sticker on things, let's focus on what you feel/ felt / experienced" and I think this create more arms to someone who is already putting so much effort in trying to rebuild their reality after experiencing that for several years...
