idk i feel like pushing the idea that men can’t relate to women on screen is weird 🤷♀️so many men already refuse to watch movies where women are the leads because they think “ oh she’s a woman i could never relate to her “. i get where you’re coming from but in reality we are all human and we all have baggage and chances are majority of people no matter the gender have been told that their personality is “too much” or that their baggage is “ too heavy “, everyone is frowned upon for being different that’s just society, yes women typically have it worse in majority of countries ( basic human rights, societal standards, etc. ) but that doesn’t take away the fact that men can experience these things too even if it’s just a few and i think that since women can relate to male roles so often then men can just as easily do the same but they just don’t want to and or refuse to which is a problem that i don’t think is wise to contribute to in the long run yk?

i’m confused, are you saying a man can never feel like clementine? do you genuinely think women are the only people who feel misunderstood or who might go their entire lives feeling like nobody truly gets them? if anything, i’d say men fall into this category far more easily, as they tend to behave antisocially far more than women do and its not even close

but understanding it as a whole doesn't revolve around being capable to know how clementine feels. it's a part of it, not the entirety of its comprehension

i don’t think this movie was never intended to create differences between woman and man, both of them are missing something and both of them are feeling stuff that they cannot explain to each other, but at the end they always end up together and they always end up hurting each other.

maybe reactionary but I dont agree. I feel like everyone understands what its like to have a person so deeply ingrained into your being that you can't have lived without them. There are entire versions of myself and years of my life I choose not to recall because at the forefront of my mind will always be my ex. I know they arent coming back now but I will always be open to love even if it's devastating and doesn't last forever because nothing is more beautiful than surrendering yourself to what the heart wants.

Gender has nothing to do with someone’s ability to understand something, as gender is not real in the first place. But what is real is upbringing centered around a social construct, and the psychological impact it has on developing young minds. Most men never played with dolls, they do not know what it is like to see themselves in them. To see themselves as something to be controlled and dressed to fit a desire. They only saw the dolls as toys, something to just simply be disregarded the second it no longer fulfilled its purpose. Most men never understood what it truly meant to be loved out of admiration over that of understanding. To them their love is that of admiration, once a doll breaks they throw it to the side and look for the next toy to make them feel warm for the night. They search to be admired but fail, through them being understood their own reflection meets them face to face through the catalyst of button eyes. And upon gazing at their own self, they are forced to understand, the facade of their ideals falter as their contact lenses laced in admiration get stuck behind their eyelids. Men pluck these old contacts out from behind their eyes and get a new pair of spectacles, never remembering what the world looked like through their old prescription.

You're right that the entire point of the film is that two people can be in the exact same relationship and experience it in completely different ways. Clementine’s perspective is heartbreaking because she’s constantly afraid of being romanticized or made smaller instead of being truly known. But Joel’s side of the film carries an equal amount of weight. His journey is about the quiet, suffocating regret of realizing you shut down when you should have stayed open—and the horror of watching your memories crumble while desperately trying to keep even the painful ones. The grief isn't about who suffered more or whose interpretation is correct; it's about how two people can love each other deeply, ruin it, and still carry that exact same loss. That depth of yearning is why this movie hits people so hard regardless of gender, and it's the exact reason I made the trip out to the Montauk beach house myself.

This is so beautifully put and exactly why this movie hits my heart so hard. It’s so relatable for a certain type of woman.

Do you think a man can ever connect with Clementine, or is it closed off entirely?
