Unsure if this is too basic but I had an idea to write about how the sound of my gold bangles I’ve been wearing since I was 4 was something I was accustomed too I never noticed the noise. But after a confrontation at work with a customer telling me to go back to my country despite being born in the USA. The bangles began to sound like shackles to a predetermined narrative made by a stranger because of my ethnic and cultural features. I started to shrink myself. But I eventually embraced it after I was able to help coworkers from my country with translating and guiding them through work training. I want to continue this in medicine by closing gaps and improving equality and inclusion so patients don’t feel like they are tied to a narrative and avoid getting help (unsure about this last part). Any advice is appreciated!!

Not a college admissions essay, but years ago I wrote a scholarship essay about Blue Magic hair grease and how the formula my grandmother used and my mother used on me equated to the values/traditions at the HBCU I wanted to attend and how I would uphold to those same values should I be admitted. I got the $250 award.

I wrote about wanting to be accepted into the college because my favorite ice cream spot was like 2 minutes from the main campus. It wasnt a neat allegory nor an interesting story. It was literally just me talking about why the ice cream was peak, and why having daily access to it was my objective.

I just wrote mines on my concept of identity after growing up with no role models or good examples, and how I ended up with introjection and a blurred sense of reality and motivation, but how my determination and experiences opened me up to new paths and a brighter concept of my future 🙂

Can I have your honest opinion for a conclusion: It opens with “I had never been so excited to be bored” and focuses on uncertainty after leukemia. Which ending do you prefer: “I still like knowing what comes next. I just don’t need tomorrow written in red marker anymore” (referring to the hospital whiteboard where each day’s changing plans were written), or “I have had plenty of boring afternoons since then. I hope I get many more”?
