@the_nightmarecorner: Mike Flanagan explains why Prime Video’s Carrie is set in modern day instead of the same decade as the book. In order to avoid just relying on nostalgia for a classic Stephen King tale, Flanagan wanted to make the series relevant to what teens are going through now instead of decades ago. Flanagan’s full quote can be read below: “This wasn’t about nostalgia and doing something again, it was about telling a story that was vital to today; speaking to the unique experience of teens today, told through a new version of Stephen’s characters.” With Carrie, shifting the timeline to present day wasn’t just out of logistical concerns, but also of thematic opportunities. Today, kids deal with a level of anxiety at school that I couldn’t have contemplated when I was growing up and the horror of being a teen today is so different from 1976, and this was a wonderful opportunity to explore that.” I honestly think having a modern day approach to Carrie is the only way another remake can be justified, but what about you? #Carrie #MikeFlanagan #PrimeVideo #Horror Source | Radio Times

I mean…I love Mike Flanagan, but this doesn’t really sound like it should sell anyone a ton. The trailer honestly sold this part better. Even the first remake of the original technically updated things to modern times and still felt like a rehash.
