@washingtonpost: “There are many people on earth who are struggling in their day-to-day life,” says Alex Honnold, a free solo climber that gives away a third of his income to charity. “They don’t want you to build an endowment; they want you to act.” @Alex Honnold can teach us about how to give better at a time when the climate, and other crises, need every cent they can get.
The problem with Alex’s thoughts is that the people who don’t have the money got there through choice. And what you can be assured of is they will always come back to the same problem indefinitely.

Even for the ultra mid class, I have given away literally everything I’ve ever had to other people. I have taken care of more people than I can count and now as I’m approaching retirement, I am going to have to die at my desk

what a wild topic to give to somebody who is wealthy but in the context of the American economy we have so many multi-millionaire people hoarding wealth that some rock climber with a few extra bucks should not be the focus. all it shows is how easy it is to give back and how shitty our oligarchs are

Easily the most effortlessly cool man on the west coast. Him being kind and giving is just one of his bonus traits.

It's crazy how many professional skateboarders built parks in California. I always wonder if maybe it was an area they grew up in that didn't have one, so they just skated street instead, or maybe there was just a big gap between skateparks and they felt an obligation to fill it. Alex isn't just humble, he actually cares so much about others too. It's great that some athletes are more passionate about their sport than being passionate about how big their bank account is.

I went from 19 dollars to 35 dollars an hour. It’s really not that much but I look for reasons to give money out. Family, donations gifts

i live paycheck to paycheck, yet i still give people anything they ask for that i have the means for. if someone needs $5, i will give them $5. if someone needs food, we will get food. a ride. a shoulder to cry on.

Alex has made me start to throw my car batteries into the ocean, no personal responsibility to pollute when there are oil rigs out in the ocean. One battery doesn’t matter and it saves me time and money!
