Slowly, Bam took a deep breath. She straightened her spine, mask sliding back over her features, cold and impenetrable.
Slowly, Bam took a deep breath. She straightened her spine, mask sliding back over her features, cold and impenetrable. "If I agree, you will sign a legally binding document transferring Sire and Selene's trust funds directly to them, free of any family conditions. You will never force them into the family business." Doña Saralee’s eyes narrowed, surprised by the quick counter-strike, but a victorious smile slowly touched her lips. "Agreed." "Then I will marry her," Bam said quietly. Two hundred kilometers away, the sun was setting over the rolling green pastures of the Eisaya Estate. The air smelled of fresh rain, damp earth, and sweet hay. In the main barn, surrounded by soft rustling and the calm breathing of purebred horses, Oom Eisaya sat on a wooden crate. She was dressed simply, a pair of faded denim overalls over a soft beige linen shirt, long brown hair tied up in a messy, effortless bun. She was breathtakingly beautiful, with warm, expressive eyes and a playful smile that usually came as naturally as breathing. Right now, however, her smile was absent. "She’s a university professor, Oom," her older sister, Kao, said, leaning against the wooden stable door with a folder in her hands. "Dr. Bam Saralee. High IQ, brilliant literature scholar, completely detached from high society." Oom stroked the white blaze on the nose of her favorite golden retriever, who rested his heavy head on her knee. "I don't care if she's a professor or a saint, Kao," Oom voice soft, musical, but laced with genuine frustration. "I have my life here. I have the farm, the ranch, and the estate. I don't want to live in some city apartment with a woman who probably analyzes poetry for fun." "It’s not just about what you want, Oom," Kao stepping closer and placing a hand on her younger sister's shoulder. "The expansion projects I'm managing for the southern pastures need the backing of the Saralee bank networks, they control more than half the banks in the city, Oom. Grandmother, as Chairman, agrees this is necessary. Both our families are known all over the country, but the Saralees' financial power is unmatched. You know how much our family relies on this land. Doing this secures the farm, the ranch, and all our real estate holdings' legal protections for the next 50 years." Oom let out a heavy sigh, resting her chin in her hands. She hated high society. She hated the artificial smiles, the formal galas, and the suffocating expectations. Her heart belonged right here, among the wide-open fields, the ranch, and the quiet rustle of the trees. And more than that her heart already belonged to someone else. "What is she like?" Oom turning her gaze back to the horse. Even though the Saralee family name was famous everywhere, Bam had kept her identity as the rightful heiress so private and avoided public gatherings so thoroughly that Oom had never even seen her face. "This Dr. Saralee?" Kao opened the folder, scanning the briefing. "Intimidating. Unbending. She wears black every single day, rarely smiles, and has rejected every attempt her family has made to give her billions. She sounds incredibly serious." Oom let out a small chuckle, a tiny glint of her usual playful defiance flickering back to life in her eyes. "A stoic professor who wears all black, huh?" Oom scratching her dog behind the ears. "Sounds exhausting. She’s going to hate me." "Oom." "I’ll do it, Kao," Oom interrupted softly, standing up from the wooden crate. She dusted off her pants and looked out over the vast, darkening fields of her home. "For the farm, the ranch, and the family. I’ll marry Dr. Saralee." She looked up at the stars beginning to peak through the dusk sky, comforting herself with the promise of fulfilling her family obligation while holding her secret thoughts close to her chest. Neither woman knew that the contract they were signing was about to dismantle every plan, every defense, and every certainty they had ever built. #oombam #bamsaralee #oomeisaya
