If you have anyone that can show you or look up some tutorials, modded mincraft, NOW STAY WITH ME, modded minecraft packs can totally transform the game to something completely different and lets you pick it up and put it down like you were talking about. I use the curseforge app to find my modpacks. A lot of modpacks I look for are ones with FTB (feed the beast) which usually have quest lines into it to work towards something.
