If I was you I would plant rye and triticale mix and cut it when it starts heading out and the first 2 inches of the stem start to turn yellow will be some of the best feed you will put up

We always fed our cover crop wheat back when we raised tobacco. Buddy of mine would roll 4-500 rolls a year of his tobacco ground and dry bale it.
