It’s been takes that says Goku is a bad father . This is one of them . Idm if Gohan was stronger than him . Gohan wasn’t even a teenager yet . He’s still a child and he put him up against a villain not even he could beat . Imo Goku was tired of being the savior and always having to be the hero that’s why he stayed dead . bad guys only come to earth because Goku doesn’t finish what he starts .

I'm strictly talking DBZ. He yelled at Chichi and destroyed medical equipment just to tell her he WAS going to Namek. He jumped in the save Dende, fought Frieza in every form and wanted to train with Piccolo and Goku for the Androids. He is a fighter.

Goku knew that cell was far more dangerous if he was near death. This was proven when he knew he lost to gohan and decided to blow himself up along with the entire planet. That's why he gave him a senzu bean, he wanted cell to be overconfident to give gohan a better chance

Hey man I used to feel the same but then you start thinking about things. Cell was giving them one chance to literally save the planet so everyone on that arena was on borrowed time from the start of it. Goku is a brilliant strategist when he knows he cant rely on his own power. As we know he jumped in first and gave it 110 to show Cell's hand, knowing Gohan's latent energy was way higher than both of them. The only hiccup in his strategy- he didn't realize Gohan doesnt like to throw down. Or did he? Imagine this in italics-- he gave that senzu bean to Cell because he was worn down and if Gohan would've pressed too hard but not given his all, as he did, There's a high possibility Cell would feel backed into a corner and kill him outright. The senzu prevented that by giving Cell his cockiness back and had him trying to egg on that temper to see whats up. Goku was always relying on that legendary outburst of power, SSj2 was just the unexpected blessed result

I mean he knew gohan and that in the bag when he gave up he asked gohan if there was anything he couldn’t see and Gohan thought his dad was playing while Goku gave everything he had. It’s been a thing since Gohan was younger his potential is crazy when he’s angry and Goku knew this so, he gave cell a senzu bean because cell wa gonna need it. As we see when Gohan Got ssj2 he was beating the living shi outta cell.
