I imagine it stems from the bias of seeing parental criticism and interpreting it as purely E1 behavior or even a parent indulging in some sort of desire or taking out anger easily on others as E8

My dad is definitely e8 due to the fact that I know a lot about his childhood and his parental dynamics, and his core fear from the way he describes his childhood. I'm not sure about my mom tho.

Cuz of stereotypes ppl think e8s and e1s are aggressive, overly dominant, and force their authority onto others. So when teens (esp those with overbearing parents) go to type their parents theyre doing so off of surface level behavior and not thinking about why or when this behavior comes out

Sometimes they jus mistake authority figure thats supposed to guide you to do certain things as an e8/e1, cuz they dont know much else on their parent. i think my mom is an sp3 and dad sp7 personally

Idk, but my mom is So1 - it’s very obvious, she’s into enneagram herself, and has typed herself as such. She frequently references E1 neuroses to explain her perspectives and behaviors. My dad is also a blueprint E9 (and has also typed himself)

parents are constantly reinforcing rules and "putting their foot down" which from a younger person's mind, which is a lot of the typology community, can easily be misconstrued as wanting control or wanting to be right when it's really just them being parents. I feel like you'd have to observe how they act around friends and partners to get a full scope and accurate type without asking questions 🤔
