Here’s how I kinda just fell into paleo… took historical geology as a class > brought in some cool fossils I found back home > kept bringing in more fossils > one professor is an Ordovician researcher and points out that my fossils are extremely weird for Ordovician stuff > Bring in more stuff that keeps getting weirder and weirder > takes another geology class > brings in more stuff > professors encourage me to start writing about my stuff > collects over 2,000 Ordovician fossils and starts writing > finds out that my deposit might contain some new stuff…

I hate these posts because this can't ever happen to me. Dyscalculia is not fun. It means numbers and math are part of my disability even if I'm smart. :( it's my life-long dream but my brain prevents me from happiness.

I dare argue that you could be a paleontologist via physics or chemistry now too. My professor at University said there are too many geologists/biologists now, its physics and chemistry that are unlocking the secrets of dinosaur colour and other new discoveries

A masters degree would also be good to do before your PhD if you have some gaps in your knowledge from undergrad. I graduated with a bio major but plant to do a geology/earth science masters before my PhD

Im currently majoring in Anthropology (focus in paleontology) & Geography and Environmental Sciences, with a minor in geology. I feel like this route makes sense, but would it be good if im attempting to go for the hands on (not really behind a computer) route?

Is only in the professor field/job if I become a paleontologist? Say I wanted to focus as a researcher but in a museum as a curator? Or can I do paleontologist part time?

Is there a way I can either assist paleontologist or just help dig up bones or something that doesnt require a degree???? I really love prehistoric life I've been studying and learning about it ever since I could talk but I hate school and im not interested in college.
