This is interesting to me. I have bipolar 1, had a very intense manic episode that did lead to hospital, legal, losing touch with reality etc.. this was nearly 10 years ago since my manic episode, but I’ve struggled with depression and anxiety intensively always. I have ongoing and chronic depression- so how does that work? Can you have bipolar one and 2? I know I have 1 it’s there it’s all the official but I also have severe depression not just always trying to avoid mania, I also experience hypomania and SI often

The thing I can’t stand is when someone with BP 2 says they’d prefer mania any day. It’s not because I want to be difficult about names. Mania and psychosis are the two most terrifying things I’ve ever lived through, and when someone says they’d prefer mania because they have BP 2 it makes mania look a lot easier than it is. They’re describing how they clean more, how they’re awake a lot, meanwhile I got hospitalized because I couldn’t stop crying about the shadow people coming to kill me and I tried to unalive myself. Mania isn’t always this great, on top of the world feeling.

I have bipolar 2 I’m always depressed and if I get hypomania that’s me getting up to do usual task like washing my clothes cleaning my room and washing dishes

I'm bipolar 1 with lots of depressive episodes. trust me you don't want to have a manic episode and lose touch with reality it causes brain damage and can cause hallucinations that seem like schizophrenia. it's horrifying.

Those that are on mood stabilizers and antidepressants. Do you see a psychiatrist and that’s who prescribes them? Or is this something I can talk to my normal Dr about? I don’t have a psychiatrist. I just get anti depressants from my regular primary.

I hate that psychiatrists focus so much on the mania when I have bipolar II. LIKE THE DEPRESSION IS THE ISSUE NOT THE HYPOMANIA!!! My hypomania occurs maybe once or twice in a year and only lasts about a week where I feel like truly the best and most functioning version of myself (and that's not a delusion) where as my depressives occur often and can last MONTHS!

As a bipolar 1 person I have bipolar 2 friends and I find there's a huge difference in our experience with mania/hypomania. If im manic, im NOT having a good time. I suffer horribly. My bipolar 2 friends really seem to enjoy their hypomania and feel like theyre more productive and alert. For me after the original energy boost the first day or two it is a really troubling, paranoid, uncomfortable experience and I cant just channel that chaotic energy into doing things that are productive.

I’m so sad and exhausted all the time, hypomania makes me feel like how I imagine a “normal” person feels. It makes me feel like I’m going to be okay and that I’m finally becoming happy.

I have bipolar 2. Two of my cousins have 1. They’re equally as bad and I can’t stand when people say one is worse. I actually ended up in the hospital at the same time as one of my cousins last year. Fun fact. We both survived and made it out. Still not fun.

Spending more time depressed than in hypomania is so real. I feel like my personality IS depression and I hate that. I had a couple good years but my meds stopped working. Trying to get back on meds tho

Bipolar 2 and it’s EXHAUSTING switching day to day. I have a few good days then a lot of bad days. I’m medicated but sometimes it doesn’t work 😅
