Love the change, people just can’t accept that DCU is its own iteration. It makes Martin’s death deeper too, sure an accident is tragic but knowing the man you admired more than anything felt worthless enough to take his life is a hell of a thing to carry as someone who embodies Willpower. It’s peak🙌

I think it’s interesting that you read the baseball as clinging onto life because my interpretation was almost the exact opposite. It seemed like Hal’s dad was trying to impart something on his son that he couldn’t do himself and telling him to let go of the worries instead of holding onto them forever. And I think that ties in with the question of whether Hal killed himself or not at the end of the episode. I don’t know which is right, but I think it’s interesting that we can come away with two completely different interpretations where both could easily be correct

I think the point is not that superhero adaptations can never change anything. Changes are sometimes necessary when translating a comic into live action, but the core origin should be adapted as faithfully as possible because the origin is one of the foundations of a character’s identity. It explains who they are, where their powers come from, what motivates them, and why they became the hero people know. If an adaptation can faithfully preserve the origins of characters like Batman, Superman ( out side DCU ), Spider-Man, Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk, and Thor while still making changes for the medium, then it is reasonable for fans to ask why the same standard cannot be applied to characters like Hal Jordan and John Stewart. Many of the comic book fans criticizing these changes have also been reading, buying, and collecting these characters’ comics for years, sometimes even decades. They have spent a lot of money supporting these characters and built a long-term connection with the source material, so of course they are going to criticize an adaptation when they feel an important part of the character has been changed. That doesn't mean they demand a 100% panel-for-panel adaptation. They can accept little changes to source material so it can translate well in to adaptasion But What they are asking for is for the core of the character's origin and identity to remain faithful. The changes made to some DC characters in live action have also made some Wonder Woman fans worried that James Gunn might change Wonder Woman’s origin from being born from clay to being the daughter of Zeus. There are also concerns that the Amazons could be portrayed similarly to the New 52 interpretation, where some versions of the mythology depicted the Amazons as being involved in sexual violence against men as a means of producing children
