i found a 1-star review of kindred by octavia e butler (one of my favourite books) and the commenter ended their review by saying they will “never read another book about slavery again” bc of how ‘bad’ they thought kindred was. just pure racism!

yup. cause how does immortal dark have a 3.6 star average rating on goodreads? that book is phenomenal and i rlly couldn’t see anything wrong with it that warranted that average rating?? if that book was written by a white author there is no way it would be that low cause meanwhile powerless has a 4.2 star rating when it’s so mid

I just realized that. I’m new to goodreads BUT I just finally read Ring Shout and the critiques were crazy! I’d pay to not like a book but the reviews said to me “let’s tear it apart while pretending this is educational”. The book was meant to enjoy, calm down

I look at the race of the reviewer, then the type of books they read. If you read majority white books then sometimes books by black authors, im not listening to you. The only reviews I acknowledge are those of the people that read black books by black authors.
