Living in a newer BTO has made us question.. how is everyone drying their laundry? 🤔 Promise this is probably our last few humidity related post for a while 😂 We know we have been sharing quite a bit about this topic, but we decided to document our journey because we realised many homeowners might be facing similar issues without knowing the cause. This actually started a few months ago. We first noticed black dots on our bedsheet and the stains got bad enough that we threw away our first bedsheet. Then a few days ago, we spotted the exact same thing happening again on our 2 weeks old bedsheet. After looking into it, we found out it was mildew. Looking back, it also started to make sense with our previous booklice situation, as booklice feed on microscopic fungi including mould and mildew. But this left us with one big question... How is everyone drying their laundry in newer BTOs? Our BTO comes with a sunshade, so we hardly get strong direct sunlight. We also rarely see neighbours hanging large items outside their windows especially those with insect mesh like us. We tried hanging small cloths on our window handles, but they kept falling onto the ledge and we had to retrieve them with a long pole 😂 For us, we currently use an automated laundry rack with the heating function. But we noticed thicker fabrics are always harder to dry because the warm air does not seem to reach every area equally. After our mildew situation, we realised that the way we dry laundry is important. It is not just about whether the clothes feel dry on the outside but making sure there is enough airflow for the entire fabric to dry properly. We are thinking of getting an old school floor laundry rack so we can spread out our laundry better. Before anyone asks why we don't open our service yard window or use the BTO provided rack 😂 It is simply a personal choice. We usually keep the window closed because of nearby reno works (our direct unit above is still doing reno) and also for privacy since our neighbours can see straight into our kitchen, dining and living area Our dehumifier is arriving tomorrow! It has laundry function too! We will definitely share an update again in the coming months. We are still learning and experimenting, so we would love to hear what works in your home 🤍 #newhomeowners #mildew #humidity #mould #sgbto
