@cbseveningnews: Detroit Tigers pitcher Justin Verlander’s final game became an emotional reminder of what matters beyond baseball when his 7-year-old daughter ran to him on the mound. After 20 seasons, he’s walking away from the game hoping to get back something he sacrificed along the way: more time with his family. #detroit #detroittigers #MLB #baseball #fatherdaughter

Houston Astros Legend. Thank you for everything JV.

You should hear his press conference after the game! He said that he’s played baseball (worked at his job) since his was 5 years old! He said that he’s missed so much of her life since she was born. Baseball (because of the travel requirements) cost him time that he sacrificed for his family! He ended his press conference by saying that he told his daughter and wife (actress Kate Upton, who is fairly new to his long baseball career) and baby that his family was #1 and that he would never miss anything ever again! Keep in mind that the two met when she (famous and from a former abusive relationship w/a famous ex NFL Q/B) simply showed up at a game and sat behind Justin’s dugout! Their eyes met, she smiled at him and he tossed her a signed baseball! Justin honored the game of baseball ⚾️for almost 35 years! Baseball ⚾️honored Justin, his wife and babies simply because He honored baseball ⚾️! Great family story! Enjoy your retirement and Hall of Fame Career Justin; that coming from a former player and fan that you typically opposed!

Its Monday and I still get teary eyed seeing clips of her running out there. I still remember his rookie season, I can't believe it's been 20+ years. 🥹😢

Vola :

It just feels surreal to see “former MLB player” on Justin Verlander’s Wikipedia page. End of an era.
