My mom wouldn’t help me and kicked me out so I went to assistance and told them I was homeless and they cut off her health insurance and food stamps because she was still claiming me. ☕️🫖

My mom was weird about helping me with literally anything. Refused to teach me how to drive, do taxes, get into college, but then she would scream at me for not doing those things and I’m like girl you’re my only parent I don’t know how!

I remember in 2009 my dad was REALLY hesitant to give his info on my FAFSA. Turns out he had enough money to send me to college but chose not to give me a penny…..which also meant I didn’t qualify for assistance. 🙃

Yep I got a full ride my mom wouldn’t sign so the school couldn’t accept my grants and I got dropped. I begged my mom to sign for them she told me ,”anything you want to do with your college is on you I’m not helping you with anything.” Mind you she helped my older sister.

My parents were incredibly financially abusive & convinced me we were barely above the poverty line. They refused to help with FASA because they had to admit at the peak of our family’s “poverty” my dad was making over $150,000 a year at the same time the house was fully paid off.

I know it sounds crazy but if this happens to you. Immediately prepare to file your own taxes, so your parents can stop claiming you as a dependent.

fafsa pisses me off bcs why is my parents income dictating what I qualify for?? I live on my own, have since i was 19, and they dont give me money for school. I dont get monetary help from my parents. it's dumb.

The reason why I didn’t continue university after high school. Was accepted and had some scholarships, only thing I needed was a little help with FASFA. Not even much, less than 10k at the time (2009). Tried to get a job at the university to stay on payroll and have a workaround to this issue. Didn’t work. 13 years of struggle and grinding, I finally was able to graduate from college. All of the pain and grinding could’ve been avoided with just a little help from my parents. I don’t speak to them.

My parents fought me hard not to give me their tax info. Literally they had me begging and crying for it. When I finally got it, my dad told everyone he paid for my college since I wouldn't have qualified for the Pell grants without his taxes🤡
