My mom is exactly like that. Any holidays or birthdays or anything, she just would throw a fit like a toddler. Why is that, is it a personality disorder? Mine has never met my almost 8 year old. My kid has special needs, and I can’t even imagine what she would say or do about that.

My grandma is like this…… she’s the reason I want to wait to get married until after she dies so I can’t be guilted to invite her…. But that runs the risk of my other grandparents dying before her and I want them to be at my wedding 😭

If it didn’t have to be a positive special event. I remember when my son had to go in for some hip surgery during adolescence because he grew faster than his body could keep up with and his hip dislocated itself. I was so worried that she was going to make this about her and talk to all of the stuff, and I simply told her that She wasn’t coming with me and that nobody wanted to hear about all of her illnesses and conditions that this was about the child or what he needed and not her. She was not happy with me.

Ugh. I had this type of mom. I called her when I got engaged despite being VERY low contact and she said she wished I wouldn't rush into marriage. We had been together for five years and I was in my late 30s. I went back to no contact after that.

I have three narcissists in my life that were constantly competing to be awful at every event.( Mom, Dad, sister)I started having anaphylactic issues every time I was around them. It took me about six months to figure out it was them that was causing it.
