@kporter.stuff: Everyone owns a box of these and almost nobody has actually thought about how they work. A worm gear hose clamp is a masterclass in getting a lot of clamping force out of a tiny amount of hand torque, but only if the band length and overlap are sized correctly for the hose diameter. Get that wrong and you can crank it as tight as you want, the hose still fails. Simple part, real engineering. 🙌🏼⚙️ #engineering #howitworks #mechanicaldesign #DIY #handtools
Can you do a video on the French’s mustard bottle cap catch… it is my simple bliss every time I use it 😌😌😌

Great video!! I’ve been wrenching cars for decades, every time I got a chance to strip a car I always took all the hose clamps off and threw them in a bucket. The nice thing was you can connect hose clamps and then to make a bigger one. Unfortunately, I noticed new hose claims now are narrower so you can’t connect a new one to an old one anymore. So they’re not only downsizing on food and cleaning products… car parts too.☹️

You can also turn that with a 1/4 hex socket instead of flat head.

I think we are going to need to go deeper into this subject and discuss different types of hose clamps. The worm gear clamp you are showing may be the most common in industry but all too often I see the incorrect clamps being spec’d for various applications. I’d love to see comparisons for different uses for different styles of clamps. (Worm gear, constant tension, t-bolt, pinch and v-band come to mind)

When I work on engines, fuel-fired coolant heaters, and fuel systems, these clamps are literally holding everything together. In the army, we rarely use anything but this style of hose clamp. Spring type clamps are very rarely seen, but we do have these other clamps that hold exhaust flanges together. I think they’re called a V-band clamp. Anyways, these clamps, I hate them, but I have to admit, they hold the world together.

One time at band clamp.
Whenever I need to use a band clamp, my mind goes to the band camp scene in the movie American Pie.

those ...Adel brand ones bat way above there intended use
all the other brands fall short of basic needs and not being able to purchase from local parts stores and home good stores ...I have started using continuous pressure spring clamps

Numerically sized in 16th of an inch ie. #10 clamp is for 5/8 hose.

the radius under the mechanism is important for selecting the right size. Quality clamps have curved edges to print cutting into the hose. Adjustable wedding rings for the modern age 😏😳🥰
