Disgrace was so cleverly done. I love how confronting it is. Must read more Coetzee

We've embarked on similar projects👍. Since late 2025 my literary consumption has focused exclusively on the work of Nobel laureates, particularly of non-U.S. writers. I started with Han Kang's "Vegetarian" and "Human Acts" and have since explored novels or poetry by Derek Walcott (Omeros), Nadine Gordimer (July's People), Halldor Laxness (Independent People), Octavio Paz (Collected Poems) Yasunari Kawabata (Beauty and Sadness), Herta Muller (The Appointment), Pablo Neruda (Essential Neruda: Selected Poems), and Abdulrazak Gurnah (By the Sea). I just started Kenzaburo Oe's "Rouse Up O Young Men of the New Age", and have Doris Lessing and Patrick Modiano on the docket to round out the year.

I never hear anyone talk about The Unconsoled! I haven’t read it but must add it my list now. And Sula is just amazing, the ending really hit me hard

I read Sula and When we were Orphans. But I don’t remember When We Were Orrphans. Around the same time I read Orphan Master’s Son and I think it eclipsed it to leave obly one Orphan book in my memory. Sula would be a quick read.

The Unconsoled was so good! Also loved Sula. It’s hard to beat just how beautifully written and profound Beloved is, but just from a pure enjoyment of the story standpoint, I think Sula has been my favorite Morrison read so far
