Portola Music Festival, one of San Francisco’s loudest live music events, appears to have gotten quieter after years of noise complaints from residents across the bay. The two-day outdoor event at Pier 80 kicked off its fifth year Saturday, once again bringing some of the biggest names in electronic dance and pop music, including Robyn; Fatboy Slim; and Dog Blood, the power duo of DJs Boys Noize and West Portal-raised Skrillex. While the waterfront festival has only grown in size and popularity since its inaugural year in 2022, it has consistently frustrated East Bay neighbors due to the low-frequency bass emitted by the more than 50 artists who perform over the weekend.
