She’s a deep purple, velvety, slightly unhinged-looking mushroom who pops up in the conifer forests of Washington’s Pacific Northwest and doesn’t give a f*ck about your expectations. Some people swear you shouldn’t eat her. They say Cortinarius species pack toxins that can wreck your kidneys. Fair warning…but this one? It depends how you look at it. She’s not actually proven toxic. You’ve just got to know how to handle her. Not every Cortinarius is the same. There are hundreds of them. You can’t paint the whole family with the same brush! There is no solid evidence she’s loaded with that orellanine sh*t that hits yo kidneys weeks later. She’s just… different. Flashy on the outside, completely bland on the inside. Okay, but it doesn’t have to stay that way. I ate her myself. Never got sick. And yeah, she’s bland as fuck. Zero personality of her own. She just soaks up whatever flavor (or energy) is around her. Like a purple sponge with commitment issues who’ll take on whatever you give her… if you know how to work with her. 😉 ...And that's where she shines... Intense. Sometimes unpredictable.
