When they have offically started the engines they have to put on the beacon light to warn the ground crew and for it just general nighttime

They always get turned on to alert both the pilots to visually avoid collision, but also turn it on before engine sequence procedures start, so that ground crew avoid being left in danger once the sequence start.

Anti collision light, must be activated when the aircraft is moving at any time, ground or air. It is to warn ground crew and other aircraft that there is an aircraft in their vicinity, and can be seen from extremely long distances so that you can see them in the air aswell, no beacon means no go
