There is no comparable stigma surrounding male private parts themselves. The prejudice regarding size (for example)is rooted in the association between the penis and power. In fact, the symbolism of the phallus is so deeply tied to power that the term “phallus” became central to psychoanalytic and philosophical discourse. The bigger, the more dominant and powerful; the smaller, the less powerful and more threatened. So much of it comes back to power and dominance among men. I’m so done with policing women for “not doing feminism right,” or for “misandry” because it’s supposedly “just as bad” or whatever the hell. Feminism is the one movement that is constantly expected to cater to the feelings of the very people it is challenging. I’m tired of protecting men’s feelings. That is not my responsibility as a woman. That is a conversation men should be having with each other, especially since they are the ones reinforcing these stereotypes among themselves. A lot of the discourse women have propagated lately has been “size doesn’t matter,” “it’s the motion in the ocean,” and so on and so forth. Did any of that actually change anything? Have men stopped trying to dominate women and each other? Have men deconstructed sexism? Not at all. If anything, it has gotten worse. There is no “correct” way for women to talk about these issues that will suddenly make men listen. Men do not care simply because we phrase things more kindly. We can try to be kind toward men all we want, but we cannot shake hands with the oppressors. Do you genuinely think that if internet discourse were kinder toward men, they would suddenly listen to us? Have they listened to us so far? Not even the so-called “woke men” are necessarily genuine allies (look at Hasan, for example). Instead, we should focus on creating women-only communities and spaces, empowering each other to decenter men, deconstruct gender roles, and build lives that aren’t organized around male approval. We should try to liberate ourselves as individual women as much as possible. Catering to men in every possible way will not liberate us. We need to stop treating men’s comfort as the prerequisite for women's liberation
