For chipmaking there are only a pair in competition - TSMC & SMIC. TSMC has full access to everything, has the ultimate fab tech. But it is now at the limit imposed by quantum physics. It will be stuck by Moore's jaw soon both in tech and cost. SMIC do not have access to the finest litho but it has the future locked up. It can do Tau fab. Break open Moore's law. It will be the winner.

Thinking of the americans, Europeans, the Japanese and the Koreans it can be said that initiating and working on a private wish is different from the realities. They want China to be technologically knocked out. China is looking for tech independence. They want Iranians to kneel down and bones broken but the Iranians haven't thrown out the gloves. They wanted a proxy to provoke the Russians, the outcome isn't there inspite of massive military expenditures that's causing bond yields to go higher amongst all the countries financially participating in that endeavor. What a world where Hypocrisy is the rule!
