@lovinmaltaofficial: Surreal scenes keep emerging from Bangkok following the extreme flooding which rendered the entire Thai capital a “disaster zone”… this time, showing huge schools of catfish swimming through main roads and straight into houses. “The city that’s renowned for its floating markets has never looked so wild,” an X.com user wrote sharing footage of the large fish swarming towards food being thrown from balconies in Lat Krabang in eastern Bangkok. Meanwhile on TikTok, one user went viral and amassed over 10 million views in a couple of days after she shared footage of the moment a large catfish entered her house, floating around the flooded floor. Bangkok is world-famous for massive stocked fishing lakes, with huge Mekong giant catfish and Chao Phraya catfish have known to weigh over 100 kilos. Named after the Chao Phraya River that flows through Bangkok, the Chao Phraya catfish is a massive predator known as the “dog-eating catfish” which can grow up to 2.7 metres. Catfish thrive in the conditions of Thailand’s rivers and they’re widely eaten and commercially important… but maybe there’s a limit to where the residents were expecting to find the large fish which didn’t include their streets and houses.
