Dinosaurs weren’t suddenly “discovered in the 1850s” alongside Darwin. People had been finding dinosaur and other prehistoric fossils centuries earlier; they just didn’t always know what they were looking at. Megalosaurus was formally described in 1824, Iguanodon in 1825, and the term “Dinosauria” was coined in 1842—before Darwin published On the Origin of Species in 1859. Industrialisation also meant far more quarrying, mining, railway cuttings and excavation, exposing geological layers that had previously been buried. More fossils being recognised in the 19th century is exactly what you’d expect from better science and vastly more digging, not evidence of a hoax.
