they are though. its not a matter of whether they are important stories to tell in the greater tapestry of human mythology (cuz they are), but more about HOW they are being told and sold with little consideration for adding to the mythos. Before stories of God's and Devils were ways to explain the natural world and the life that dwells in it, now its just to put butts in seats

I just feel that a issue is we treat superhero as a full genre when it's more of a story telling device, like how Big and lord of the rings both have magic but you wouldn't say they're the same genre. I just want more variety in storytelling that's why I'm hyped for clayface

No one hates superheros…just crappy stories and the superhero genre (mainly dc and marvel) have some of the worst stories and executed projects and adaptations. Most dc and marvel projects appear more like commercials than films now.

All of this yet the reason people are calling it slop is legit because that’s what it is. They quite literally are rushing to get to the end so that we can get to the X-Men instead of actually building up the Doomsday and just relying on cameos and fan service to make it good. Example, dr doom the guy who has an entire comic just based on his backstory which doesn’t even really get into the fantastic four is going to be entirely rust so that we can get iron man as dr doom

I think Hollywood is ruining superhero’s. They are way too focused on mass market appeal so want to make them as likeable and marketable as possible, taking away their distinct personalities or nuanced characters in trade for something more unilaterally loved. It’s why it feels like all marvel characters make the same jokes.

I agree with both sides. I love DC and the risks they take but Marvel films, especially now, are so artistically benign because Disney doesn't let the directors use their own voice. See Ant Man and Edgar Wright and Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother after Blade fell through
