👑Who was the last pharaoh of ancient Egypt? Most people would probably say Cleopatra VII. 👸🐍 But the real answer is a lot more complicated. 🤔 Cleopatra ruled Egypt until 30 BC, when Octavian conquered the kingdom, and Egypt lost its independence to Rome. ⚔️🏛️ Her death marked the end of independent Ptolemaic Egypt after nearly 300 years of Greek rule. But Cleopatra technically wasn't the final Ptolemaic king. 👀 Her son Caesarion, also known as Ptolemy XV, had ruled alongside his mother since 44 BC. After Cleopatra's death, he briefly remained the nominal ruler of Egypt. 👑 It didn't last. Octavian had the teenage Caesarion captured and killed, eliminating the last surviving Ptolemaic king. ⚔️ But there's another answer. 🏺 If you mean the last native Egyptian pharaoh, that distinction belongs to Nectanebo II. 👑 Nectanebo II ruled from 360 to 343 BC before Egypt fell once again to the Persian Empire. He was the last indigenous Egyptian to rule the country as pharaoh. 🏺⚔️ And here's where things get even stranger. 👀 When Rome conquered Egypt, the pharaohs didn't immediately disappear from Egyptian temples. Roman emperors ruled Egypt as part of the Roman Empire 🏛️, but Egyptian priests continued depicting some of them in the traditional role of pharaoh, complete with crowns, royal titles, hieroglyphs, and cartouches. 👑📜 More than 300 years after Cleopatra, the Roman emperor Maximinus Daza was still being named in Egyptian hieroglyphs. His cartouche appears on remains associated with a temple at Tahta, and he is the last Roman emperor known to have his name placed in an Egyptian temple cartouche. 🤯🏺 So who was Egypt's last pharaoh? Well, that's a complicated answer. Nectanebo II was the last native Egyptian pharaoh. 👸 Cleopatra VII was the last effective ruler of an independent Egypt. 👑 Caesarion was the last Ptolemaic king. 🏛️ Maximinus Daza was the last Roman emperor known from a traditional pharaonic temple cartouche. Depending on what you mean by “last pharaoh,” every one of those answers can be right. 🤯 Ancient Egyptian history rarely gives us a simple answer, even when the question sounds simple. 🏺𓂀✨ #AncientEgypt #AncientHistory #EgyptianHistory #Egyptology #Pharaoh #Pharaohs #Cleopatra #CleopatraVII #Caesarion #PtolemyXV #NectaneboII #PtolemaicEgypt #RomanEgypt #EgyptFacts #HistoryFacts #AncientWorld #EgyptianCulture #AncientCivilizations #HistoryLovers #LearnHistory #Egypt #Archaeology #RomanEmpire #WorldHistory
Bejn impenn u ieħor fi New York…
Ever felt truly insignificant? Step into the belly of the Slănic Salt Mine and prepare to be dwarfed—not by ego or time, but by salt. Not the delicate sprinkle on your breakfast eggs, but primordial, geological salt—stacked, chiseled, and forged into a void so vast it shames cathedrals and silences tourists. Here, beneath the unassuming hills of Prahova, Romania cracked open the earth like an old book, and found a cathedral built by miners, not monks. Eight million cubic meters of emptiness, a void so cavernous it could cradle a skyscraper on its side—and still ask for more. This isn’t just a mine, it’s a cavernous tomb for hubris. At 208 meters deep, it’s an underground cosmos with its own microclimate, its own echo, its own rules. People descend here not just to gawk, but to breathe. They say the air, thick with pulverized halite, cures lungs weary from smoke and sin. Soviet astronauts once trained in its acoustic vacuum, and interwar elites held soirées under chandeliers of stalactitic salt. Today, children with asthma bounce footballs off walls carved by pickaxes a century ago. This is not a tourist stop—it’s a pilgrimage into the bowels of what endurance looks like. And yet, why does it feel so personal? So mythic? Perhaps because every echo down here reminds you that we come from salt—tears, sweat, blood—and to salt we may return. In a world so loud with pretense, the mine whispers something honest. Something mineral. Do you think silence can be holy? Have you ever walked through a cathedral built of salt and shadow?
